FISHING REPORT

* LAKE MEAD -- Anglers working the Overton arm have been catching fish but are reluctant to share their hot spots. This area of the lake boasts striped, smallmouth and largemouth bass and catfish. In the lower basin, shad have been seen along the shoreline in the Vegas Bay arm, where boaters have been taking stripers on surface lures. Bait fishermen have been catching fish in this area and at Hemenway.

* LAKE MOHAVE -- The past weekend saw a surge of anglers at Cottonwood Cove on the Nevada side, yet cooler temperatures and strong winds have curtailed activity. Some anglers reeled in largemouth bass, striped bass and a carp or two.

* LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Catfish will be stocked on May 1 in the ponds at Sunset Park, Mesquite and Veteran's Memorial Park in Boulder City. Ponds at Lorenzi Park and Floyd Lamb State Park will receive their first catfish plant May 4.

* EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- PowerBait, spinners, worms and flies are drawing rainbow and tiger trout. The weather is expected to be good this weekend, just in time for the $50,000 fishing derby.

* ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Trout were stocked Tuesday. Anglers have been catching rainbows on hardware, PowerBait and worms. Call 775-962-5293 for information on this weekend's fishing derby. The $25 entry fee gives you a chance to catch a fish worth $50,000.

* KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Action for rainbow trout and largemouth bass has been good. Anglers have been catching bass primarily on Cold Springs, but they also can be found in Haymeadow and Adams McGill. PowerBait and worms are drawing trout, as are flies. For bass, try green-, black-, blue- or pumpkin seed-colored plastics.

* COMINS LAKE -- Trout fishing should continue to pick up, and the adventurous should be able to hook into a pike or two. If Comins is slow, try Cave Lake or Illipah. Neither is far from Comins.
