Las Vegas Mobsters to join soccer's Premiere Development League

Las Vegas has been awarded a franchise in soccer’s Premier Development League, which draws top college and amateur players.

The Las Vegas Mobsters will begin playing in the spring with home games at UNLV’s Peter Johann Field. The league had 64 teams last season. The Mobsters will be part of the league’s Western Conference, which has teams in Arizona, Utah and California.

The team’s owners, law partners Geoffrey Hawkins and Martin Melendrez, said in a statement their goal is to build the amateur franchise and bring a professional team to Las Vegas. The team’s website is
