Legacy locks down playoff bid

Legacy coach Dave Snyder watched his team compile 359 yards of offense and score 31 points Friday night.

But defense was Snyder's postgame focus after the Longhorns allowed only 52 yards and three first downs en route to a 31-0 road victory over Cimarron-Memorial.

"That's two weeks in a row we've had shutouts," said Snyder, whose squad beat Desert Oasis 55-0 on Oct. 12. "We struggled early, but this defense has really come alive. Defense is what wins championships."

Legacy (5-3, 3-1 Southwest), which clinched a postseason berth, got all the points it needed on Julian Castro's 39-yard field goal in the first quarter.

The Spartans (3-5, 1-3), who gained 1 yard on their first two possessions, could not contain Legacy's Charles Julian. His 48-yard touchdown sprint late in the first quarter gave the Longhorns a 10-0 lead.

"He's got the biggest heart of any kid I've ever seen," Snyder said of his 5-foot-4-inch, 145-pound running back. "He's a special individual."

Julian, who finished with 187 yards on 24 carries, continued to move the ball, allowing quarterback Kashawn Richardson to score on a 1-yard plunge and an 11-yard run in the second quarter.

Julian touched the ball only three times in the third quarter, but returned in the fourth to spark a drive that resulted in a 5-yard TD run by Cody Polvado.

Isaiah Purdy helped the Longhorns with 60 yards on 10 carries, and Richardson rushed 10 times for 36 yards.

For Cimarron, Justin Davis gained 41 yards on 13 carries.

■ Arbor View 56, Sierra Vista 21 - At Arbor View, the No. 2 Aggies (8-0, 4-0 Northwest) scored TDs on their first seven possessions and rushed for 342 yards to top the Mountain Lions (1-7, 0-4).

Anthony Smith gained 132 yards on five carries, including a 38-yard TD, and caught a 49-yard scoring pass from Rasheem Parks.

Ricky Clark rushed for three TDs, Jimmie Finister and C.J. Smith also scored, and Jacob Speaks returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown.

■ Liberty 59, Eldorado 13 - At Liberty, Jaylen Mitchell racked up 230 total yards and scored three touchdowns to spark the No. 3 Patriots (6-1, 3-0 Southeast) over the Sundevils (1-6, 0-3).

Mitchell caught four passes for 116 yards and two TDs, rushed for a score and gained 98 return yards.

Kai Nacua was 7 of 7 passing for 152 yards and three TDs, and Tyler Newman led five Patriots scoring drives, finishing 7 of 12 for 123 yards and two TDs.

Liberty's Tyler Parvin rushed for 49 yards and two TDs in place of Niko Kapeli, who sat out with a foot injury.

The Patriots defense had seven sacks, three by Ka'imi Batoon.

Justin Brown led Eldorado with 99 yards rushing and a TD.

■ Green Valley 68, Rancho 0 - At Green Valley, Christian Lopez passed for four TDs, all in the first half, and 199 yards to lead the fifth-ranked Gators (6-1, 3-0 Northeast) past the Rams (0-7, 0-3).

Quinton Kohorst, Markus Varner, Adonis Todd and Kyler Chavez caught TD passes. Alec Ramirez scored twice and rushed for 81 yards, and Gino Jonassaint ran for 57 yards and two scores.

Gio Hernandez scored on a 90-yard interception return, and Daniel Harrison scored on a 45-yarder. Conor Perkins was 8-for-8 on conversion kicks.

■ Palo Verde 44, Durango 20 - At Durango, Ryan Beaulieu rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 6 Panthers (6-3, 4-0 Northwest) rumbled past the Trailblazers (4-4, 2-2).

Lee Griggs ran for two TDs and 108 yards, 101 in the first half, and made Palo Verde's only two pass receptions. Calvin Beaulieu also rushed for two scores.

Durango's Gene Germain rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns, and Arie McQuaig Jr. ran for 77 yards and a TD.

■ Canyon Springs 46, Valley 0 - At Canyon Springs, Stevie Farmer threw touchdown passes to four receivers, leading the seventh-ranked Pioneers (5-2, 3-0 Northeast) past the Vikings (1-6, 0-3).

Michael Gayden, Devon Neal and Keveon Glenn caught 15-yard TD passes from Farmer, who also threw a 27-yarder to Stephon Revels. Donnel Pumphrey rushed for a 47-yard touchdown and gained 169 yards on 19 carries.

Diamante Luna returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown.

■ Coronado 41, Foothill 22 - At Coronado, Kevin Lucero threw for three TDs and Derrick Keller rushed for 176 yards and two scores, leading the No. 9 Cougars (5-2, 2-1 Southeast) to a homecoming win over the Falcons (2-5, 1-2).

Foothill was without Drew Doxtator, the area's leading passer, who was injured last week against Basic. In his place, Jalen Shepard completed 15 of 23 passes for 203 yards, including a 44-yard TD to James Henderson. Shepard was intercepted twice and sacked six times.

Lucero, who was 16 of 24 for 203 yards, threw touchdown passes to Kjell Henness, Jackson Cofer and Brock Taeubel.

Keller scored on runs of 21 and 67 yards and had a key 25-yard reception.

Foothill's Jordan Primo ran for 68 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown.

■ Las Vegas 38, Silverado 35 - At Silverado, Vince Castro hauled in a 14-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Swenson with 13 seconds to play, giving the Wildcats (5-2, 2-1 Northeast) a dramatic victory over the Skyhawks (4-3, 1-2).

Las Vegas drove 70 yards in 2:07 for the winning score. Swenson connected on 24 of 31 passes for 279 yards, including three second-half TDs.

There were seven lead changes - four in the fourth quarter - as the Wildcats overcame 314 yards and five TDs on 47 carries by Silverado's Alex Cater.

Cater's fifth TD was a go-ahead 2-yard run with 2:30 to play. Las Vegas led 24-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but Cater capped an 80-yard drive with a 3-yard run, then scored on an 89-yard run with 9:21 left to put Silverado ahead, 28-24.

But Las Vegas answered, as Swenson threw a 72-yard bomb to Joshua Mayfield to the Silverado 8, then found him for a 2-yard TD pass three plays later.

Mayfield made six receptions for 115 yards. Andrew Moreland rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown for Las Vegas.

■ Shadow Ridge 35, Spring Valley 14 - At Spring Valley, Bakari Smith ran for two TDs and passed for 177 yards and another score to guide the Mustangs (2-6, 2-2 Northwest) past the Grizzlies (2-6, 0-4).

Smith's 10-yard keeper capped a 14-play, 80-yard drive to put Shadow Ridge up 14-7 at halftime. He led a 90-yard drive to open the third quarter that ended with his 7-yard TD run.

Smith also threw a 32-yard TD pass to J Henderson, and Ryan Johnson scored on a 66-yard run as the Mustangs outgained the Grizzlies, 399-171.

Spring Valley's Brant Berglund ran for a 6-yard score and had a 15-yard TD pass to Christian Tasi.

■ Desert Oasis 44, Bonanza 20 - At Desert Oasis, Kurtis Brooks rushed for 154 yards and three first-half TDs, then Andre Munyan took over with 139 yards and three scores to lift the Diamondbacks (2-6, 1-3 Southwest) over the Bengals (1-7, 0-4).

Munyan's 96-yard TD run in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.

Bonanza's Jayveon Taylor rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown, and Austin Rowe kicked two field goals. Scott Dore supplied two sacks and forced a fumble.

■ Boulder City 47, Chaparral 27 - At Boulder City, Xavier Steel rushed for 178 yards, including an 11-yard TD, and D.J. Koopman supplied 141 yards on the ground to power the Eagles (8-1, 4-1 I-A Sunrise) past the Cowboys (4-5, 1-4).

Boulder City led 32-13 at halftime, and Joe Miller's 45-yard TD pass to Michael Kelso helped the Eagles hold off Chaparral. Kelso caught two passes for 67 yards, and J.D. Owens had two TD runs.

Chaparral's Antonio Thomas rushed for 85 yards and a TD on 18 carries. Jason Jonshon was 8 of 10 passing for 160 yards and ran for 79 yards and two TDs.

■ Cheyenne 72, Clark 0 - At Cheyenne, Myloe Lewis rushed for 279 yards and six touchdowns, four in the first quarter, as the Desert Shields (7-2, 5-0 I-A Sunset) routed the Chargers (1-8, 1-4).

Demetrius Jones, Quentin Miller and Joseph Woolford also scored touchdowns, and the Desert Shields racked up 449 yards without attempting a pass.

■ Mojave 47, Pahrump Valley 6 - At Mojave, Zack Arave scored on a 66-yard keeper and threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Parker in the first half as the Rattlers (5-4, 4-1 I-A Sunset) cruised past the Trojans (2-7, 2-3).

Arave rushed for 146 yards on six carries to lead a Mojave ground game that compiled 408 yards and six TDs.

Pahrump Valley quarterback A.J. Segura had 113 all-purpose yards.

■ Faith Lutheran 52, Western 12 - At Western, Greg Benson threw for 183 yards and four touchdowns on 88-percent passing as the Crusaders (5-4, 3-2 I-A Sunset) routed the Warriors (1-8, 0-5) in the regular-season finale.

Faith Lutheran visits Boulder City for a playoff game Thursday.

Anthony Pryatel-Farmer made three TD catches among his nine receptions for 121 yards.

Faith Lutheran's defense allowed only 53 yards through three quarters, with Mark Rubalcaba, Tyler Mahan and Vinny DeGeorge making interceptions.

Western scored on Quayjon Walker's 90-yard kickoff return and Scott Kohberger's 25-yard catch from Larry Jennings.

■ Virgin Valley 41, Sunrise Mountain 21 - At Mesquite, Dee Bowler rushed for 227 yards and five touchdowns on 29 carries as the Bulldogs (5-4, 2-3 Division I-A Sunrise) beat the Miners (2-7, 0-5).

Virgin Valley's Garrett Leavitt completed 15 of 18 passes for 230 yards, including a TD to Dillon Graves, who had four catches for 54 yards. Cristian Aguirre had three catches for 75 yards.

■ Mountain View 28, Lincoln County 12 - At Panaca, Travis Wallace rushed for a score and threw a TD pass to Elijah Armstrong as the Saints (8-1, 7-0 Division III Southern) topped the Lynx (7-2, 6-1) to gain sole possession of first place.

Jacob Duldulao and Matthew Larson also ran for TDs for the Saints, who outscored the Lynx 14-0 after halftime.

■ The Meadows 33, Needles 13 - At Needles, Calif., sophomore Jacob Gleason completed 14 of 17 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns as The Meadows (3-6, 3-5 Division III Southern) routed Needles (4-4, 4-3) to end the season on a three-game winning streak.

Gleason threw TD passes of 48 and 62 yards to Robert List, who made five receptions for 149 yards. Chase Marrs rushed for 53 yards and a TD and caught four passes for 83 yards and a score, and Chisup Kim scored on a 4-yard run.

For Needles, Mason Cisneros had TD runs of 35 and 4 yards.

■ Spring Mountain 70, Beatty 14 - At Beatty, freshman Bruce Travis-Collins scored on runs of 6, 62 and 41 yards and caught a 43-yard TD pass from Marcus Thomas as the Eagles (7-1, 5-1 Division IV Southern) beat the Hornets (1-5, 1-4).

Spring Mountain's Ashley Christmas scored on a 61-yard run, a 65-yard punt return and a 51-yard pass from Thomas.

Thomas had a 37-yard TD run, and Armonta Puryear scored on a 2-yard run.

■ Indian Springs 49, Beaver Dam (Ariz.) 26 - At Littlefield, Ariz., Devin Jackson scored on a 54-yard run, a 60-yard punt return and a 75-yard kickoff return, and also threw an 84-yard touchdown pass to Troy Heath to lead the Thunderbirds (3-5) past the Diamondbacks (3-3).

Jackson rushed for 99 yards on 14 carries. Heath also ran for a TD, and Tristan Thomas had three catches for 51 yards.
