Bellator featherweight Parsons critically injured in Florida crash

Bellator MMA featherweight Jordan Parsons was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident in Delray Beach, Florida, around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Parsons was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck by a driver in a Range Rover who fled the scene.

The organization confirmed the situation in a news release.

“Bellator has been informed of a terrible accident that occurred involving featherweight fighter Jordan Parsons, who was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident,” the statement read. “We are still in the process of uncovering details and with his family’s consent, hope to have an update on his medical condition soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jordan and his family as he recovers.

The hit-and-run occurred on Lindell Blvd. and South Federal Highway in Delray Beach, Florida. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Delray Beach Police Department at (561) 243-7800.”

CBS 12 in Miami reported Monday the 25-year-old fighter remains in critical condition. Parsons’ friend and teammate, former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans, said on his Instagram page that Parsons had his right leg amputated and is in a coma.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Parsons’ medical costs. His career is almost certainly over.

He is 11-2 as a professional and coming off a loss to Bubba Jenkins in November.

Parsons was to face Adam Piccolotti on May 14 on the main card of Bellator 154 in San Jose, California.

Also on the card, Josh Thomson pulled out of a lightweight bout against former champion Michael Chandler because of an undisclosed injury.
