Scoggins off UFC 201 flyweight bout against McCall after difficult weight cut

Saturday’s UFC 201 card in Atlanta has lost a fight from the main card.

Flyweight Justin Scoggins ran into difficulty while trying to cut weight on Thursday night and will be unable to compete on Saturday.

According to multiple reports, Scoggins got down to 132 pounds when the weight stopped coming off of his body.

When it was determined a catchweight fight would not be a possibility, the decision was made to remove Scoggins from the fight. McCall will still try to make weight and hit the scales Friday in case he is needed as an alternate on the card.

The maximum allowable weight for a non-title flyweight bout is 126 pounds.

McCall and Scoggins were scheduled to open the pay-per-view portion of the card. A flyweight bout between Ryan Benoit and Fredy Serrano has been moved from the Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card to the main card, which begins at 7 p.m.

The Fox Sports 1-televised portion of the preliminary card, which starts at 5 p.m., remains unchanged.

Early Thursday evening, Scoggins posted “bantamweight” on his Twitter page, an indication he plans to move up to the 135-pound weight class moving forward.

He had won two straight fights after suffering the first two losses of his career.

Losing the fight is particularly difficult for McCall, who was scheduled to compete for the first time since January 2015. He has dropped three of his last five fights, including a unanimous decision against John Lineker in his last fight when Lineker missed weight by four pounds.

UFC 201 is headlined by a welterweight title bout between Tyron Woodley and champion Robbie Lawler.
