UFC on Fox 21 card in Vancouver finally has main event

One UFC event’s loss is another’s gain.

A matchup between welterweight contenders Carlos Condit and Demian Maia has been pulled from UFC 202 and will now serve as the main event of UFC on Fox 21 in Vancouver on Aug. 27.

Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press first reported the switch Tuesday on Twitter.

Condit has not competed since dropping a split decision to champion Robbie Lawler in a January title bout.

Maia has won five straight fights, including a third-round submission of Matt Brown in May.

UFC officials have been seeking a headlining bout for the Vancouver event since it was first announced in June.

The card also features a featherweight bout between Charles Oliveira and Anthony Pettis and marks the return of “Dancing With The Stars” runner-up Paige VanZant, who will fight Bec Rawlings in a women’s strawweight contest.

A lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon, who were both victorious at UFC 200, has also been added to the event.

UFC 202 will be headlined by a welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz on Aug. 20 at T-Mobile Arena.
