Nevada Fishing Report

LAKE MEAD — Anglers venturing out on boats or kayaks have had good success at the north end of Boulder Basin. Striped bass generally are in the 1- to 3-pound range. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are active around coves. Catfish have been more active at night. With the full moon, night fishing could make for a fun weekend.

LAKE MOHAVE — Striper activity is good. Anglers are finding the fish in deeper water and catching them with cut anchovies. Shelves in and around coves are where fishermen are finding the smallmouth bass. Silver crankbaits or red- and green-colored soft plastic baits are enticing them. Weather coming from the south is going to be unpredictable again, so fishing could be hit and miss as systems pass through the area this weekend.

LAUGHLIN — Fishing slowed during last weekend’s Regatta. Be careful along the shorelines, where leftover trash can create safety issues. Boaters have found good action for all three bass species – striped, largemouth and smallmouth. Catfish are showing up from Davis Dam to below Casino Row. One boater recently brought in an 8½-pound catfish from this area while casting anchovies.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — Bluegill and bass are hitting well in the mornings and taking mealworms and night crawlers. Rumors that Lorenzi Park is closed to fishing are invalid. It remains a great location for viewing and catching bluegill and bass. A Nevada Department of Wildlife catfish plant is scheduled for next week at Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, Sunset, Veterans Memorial and Hafen park ponds.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Cold Springs, Hay Meadow and Adams-McGill reservoirs have been fishing fairly well during the past week but still have a lot of aquatic vegetation around the edges. Trout and bass have been taking a variety of lures such as crocodile spoons and Kastmasters. Dacey has been clear and fishing well.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Action has picked up this past week as temperatures have begun to drop. Anglers have been catching trout with PowerBait and spinning lures. Largemouth bass have been hitting well near the tules and are ranging from 1 to 3 pounds.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Though the water level is at its usual summer low, the fishing action has picked up, with folks catching rainbow trout with PowerBait and small spinners. Bass and crappie also are taking spinners and jigs.
