Nevada fishing report, Oct. 8, 2015

LAKE MEAD — Fall fishing is underway, and the action is good for smallmouth bass and stripers. Anglers have reeled in smallies as large as 4 pounds during the past week. Stripers are averaging 2 to 4 pounds. Lures such as pink Spinnows and white, chartreuse and orange swim baits are bringing in the fish.

LAKE MOHAVE — Largemouth bass action has been steady. Lures and night crawlers are working well for smallmouth and largemouth bass. The limit is six fish. Striper fishing is starting to slow. Catfish still are biting on anchovies.

LAUGHLIN — Channel catfish have been biting south of Davis Dam. Anchovies are the best bet for bait. Spinner baits have been a good option for largemouth bass.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — The last catfish plant of the season at each of the urban ponds is scheduled for this week. Trout plants will begin after the water cools sufficiently. Processed catfish baits, night crawlers and mealworms generally work well for catfish.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Heavy rainfall over the past week has kept most anglers off the water. All reservoirs are in good shape heading into the fall, with water levels above average for this time of year. Waterfowl season opens Saturday. Expect above-average hunting pressure for the opening weekend.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Fishing was good for participants of the One-Fly fishing tournament over the weekend. The hot fly was an olive-colored Woolly Bugger tied with flashabou in the tail and fished by Ray Gutierrez of Las Vegas. Bait anglers also did well with night crawlers and PowerBait in orange or green colorations.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Fishing has been good in recent days. Anglers have been doing well with PowerBait in orange or green, small spinners and flies. Weather conditions have made for good wildlife viewing in the area for species such as deer and wild turkey.
