New UNLV basketball coach Chris Beard nearly settled on coaching staff

Mark Adams, Brian Burg and Chris Ogden all appear to be headed to UNLV to serve as assistants under new coach Chris Beard, but the school has not announced their hires.

“We will announce when the paperwork is finalized,” Rebels athletic director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said in a text message Monday.

If Adams, who was an assistant under Beard at Arkansas-Little Rock last season, becomes the director of operations, that would leave UNLV will one more spot to fill. Adams served as director of ops at Texas Tech for two seasons before leaving for Little Rock last year.

Two coaches on the Rebels’ previous staff, Stacey Augmon and Ryan Miller, remain under contract. But coaches often bring in entirely new staffs.

Like Adams, Burg also comes over from Little Rock, where he spent one season. He previously was at North Carolina Central, where NextUpRecruits.com ranked him the top assistant in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the 2014-15 season.

Ogden spent this season as an assistant at Tennessee under coach Rick Barnes. He followed Barnes after also coaching under him for seven seasons at Texas, where he was a key recruiter and helped land Findlay Prep product Avery Bradley, who now plays for the Boston Celtics.
