Postcard from the Bahamas: Tiki Bikini Hut has the atmosphere

Editor’s note: Mark Anderson is covering the UNLV men’s basketball team’s trip to the Bahamas. Every day this week he is sharing his experiences away from the arena.

Junkanoo Beach is across the street from where I’m staying, and Tiki Bikini Hut was crowded nearly every time I walked by.

So I had to find out for myself, though I already knew about this place. Trip Advisor lists it as the fifth-best place to go in Nassau. I was a little surprised to see that Tiki Bikini Hut’s sign said it was listed as No. 1, so maybe Ryan Lochte is handling its publicity.

Either way, it was tough to beat the atmosphere, which is what sets Tiki Bikini Hut apart. A DJ played while bartenders served just about any drink combination you can imagine. I went with a Diet Coke because I didn’t want to show up at UNLV’s exhibition later Thursday wondering why each team had 10 players on the court.

Is it really the No. 5 (or No. 1) thing to do in Nassau?

Not if it were in a different location. But being on the white sandy beach with the Caribbean’s famous green and blue waters so close, it’s definitely worth checking out.

And if you don’t have to be somewhere for work later, try something a little harder than a Diet Coke.
