UNLV football player Will Kreitler on watch list for Rimington Trophy

UNLV center Will Kreitler is on the official Fall Watch List released Wednesday for the Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the most outstanding center in college football.

One of Rebels coach Tony Sanchez’s first recruits, Kreitler earned honorable mention All-Mountain West honors last season after transferring from Scottsdale (Arizona) Community College. The 6-foot, 300-pound senior is a 2016 preseason second team All-MW pick by Phil Steele’s preview magazine and a third-team pick by Athlon.

Hailed by Sanchez as perhaps the team’s most valuable player last season, Kreitler started all 12 games at center while allowing only one sack and leading a line that helped UNLV finish 36th in the Football Bowl Subdivision in rushing offense, with 193.7 yards per game.

The finalists for the Rimington Trophy will be announced Dec. 5 and the award will be presented on Jan. 14 at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska.
