UNLV practice recap: Rebels get into situational work

The UNLV football team concluded another fall practice Thursday morning, one week from the Rebels Sept. 1 home opener against Jackson State.

The team started preparing for its first opponent a few days ago but with some extra practice time before week one, coach Tony Sanchez is putting hsi team through a few end of game situational drills.

TONY’S TAKE

“It was a shorter practice. We were out there for 90 minutes. We wanted to take it off their legs a little bit. We don’t come back out until 4 (p.m.) tomorrow so they have a full 24 hours of recovery to get their legs back a little bit.

“Tomorrow’s just a one hour, we’ll work on a bunch of different situational things that could come up at any time during the year that you might not see often. It’s important to get that stuff in while at the same time resting them up.”

HERES’ THE SITUATION

The Rebels simulated a few end of game scenarios Thursday and Sanchez plans to do the same Friday. Things he said he wanted to work on include the hands team, onside kicks, last minute scoring drives and Hail Marys.

“We’re going to work these situations that could win you a game,” Sanchez said. “You don’t have a lot of time to practice those things, so tomorrow will be a good day to get some of those things done.”
