Homer in 12th inning lifts Rebels past Texas in baseball opener

Andrew Yazdanbakhsh hit a one-out, full-count home run in the 12th inning to send UNLV to a season-opening 4-3 win over No. 23 Texas in a nonconference baseball game Friday in Austin, Texas.

The Rebels tied the score at 3 in the eighth on Cooper Esmay's two-out triple that scored Austin Anderson and Nick Ames, who had walked.

Dean Kremer, who relieved UNLV starter D.J. Myers in the fifth inning, was stellar over 5 2/3 innings — shutting out the Longhorns on one hit and one walk while striking out three.

Blaze Bohall (1-0) was perfect over the final two innings for the Rebels, who improved to 32-18 in season openers with their eighth win in their past 11 openers on the road.

Payton Squier and Cody Howard had two hits apiece for UNLV, which matched Texas' eight hits.
