Food 4 Less stores to exit Las Vegas market

A big, local grocery store player is taking its brand off the shelf.

After early 2015, the Food 4 Less nameplate will no longer be seen in Southern Nevada.

The Kroger Co., which owns both Food 4 Less and Smith’s Food &Drug Stores, said Thursday that it will convert six area Food 4 Less stores into Smith’s locations. Kroger will close Food 4 Less’ seven remaining local stores.

Food 4 Less stores set to become Smith’s branches in early 2015 are at 3013 W. Craig Road; 4001 S. Decatur Blvd.; 3602 E. Bonanza Road; 2255 Las Vegas Blvd. North; 4965 E. Sahara Ave.; and 8180 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Food 4 Less stores that will close early next year are at 2271 N. Green Valley Parkway; 2545 S. Eastern Ave.; 1955 N. Nellis Blvd.; 120 S. Rainbow Blvd.; 1301 S. Boulder Highway; and 3250 E. Flamingo Road.

The Food 4 Less store at 3864 W. Sahara Ave. will close in November.

Food 4 Less has 900 employees in the Las Vegas market. Kroger officials said all local Food 4 Less employees will have offers to join the Smith’s team after the store conversions.

Smith’s has 30 local stores with 3,500 employees.

“We are delighted that Food 4 Less associates from both the converted and closed stores will be able to continue their careers with Smith’s,” Jay Cummins, Smith’s division president, said in a statement. “The addition of these 900 talented associates along with six stores will strengthen Smith’s areas of service and help us better serve the community with fresh, quality products and services.”

Food 4 Less will continue to operate in California and Chicago.
