Man crashes car, leaves injured girlfriend

WILLIMANTIC, CT — A Connecticut man was arrested on Sunday after getting into a two-car crash and fleeing the scene while his injured girlfriend was still in the car.
Willimantic Police responded to Jackson Street at about 2:45 p.m. for the report of a two-car head on crash.
The driver of the of the vehicle, 53-year-old Albert Hawley, fled the car on foot and left his injured girlfriend in the passenger side of the car.
His girlfriend, whose identity is not being released at this time, was brought to Windham Hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The two female occupants of the second car were not injured.
Willimantic Police requested a Willimantic Police K-9 unit, but it was canceled after patrol personnel located Hawley.
According to police, Hawley was hiding in a nearby apartment complex. He was taken into custody without incident.
Hawley is being charged with failure to drive right, operating without a license and evading responsibility.
"The roadway was re-opened at around 3:45 p.m. The driver, who purposely left his injured girlfriend within their car, is no in custody at Willimantic Police Headquarters," said Cpl. Stanley F. Parizo, Jr.
