Wrongfully convicted man killed 3 years after prison release

A Chicago man who served 17 years in prison for murder before being cleared of the crime was shot and killed nearly three years after he was released from prison.
Alprentiss Nash, 40, was shot in the chest on Tuesday near Chicago's west side, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Police said it started with an argument during "some sort of transaction."
Nash was convicted in 1995 for the murder and robbery of Leon Stroud, CBS News reported, and was sentenced to 80 years in prison. In the initial investigation, Nash claimed he was selling drugs and shopping for clothes during the time of the murder.
His shopping alibi was confirmed and no DNA linked him to the crime, but he was sentenced on a witness statement.
A 2012 DNA test on a ski mask left behind at the scene matched another man, and Nash was released. He received $200,000 from the state after his release and a pending civil rights case against Chicago will continue with his 22-year-old son.
