BOOK SALE PLANNED AT CENTENNIAL HILLS LIBRARY

The meeting room inside the Centennial Hills Library, 6711 N. Buffalo Drive, is scheduled to host the library’s third annual Winterfest Booksale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 through March 1. LAS VEGAS SENIOR EXPO PLANNED

The Las Vegas Senior Expo, a community event targeting Southern Nevada seniors, baby boomers, families and caregivers, plans to hold its first 2014 event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Fiesta Rancho, 2400 N. Rancho Drive.

Expo organizers hope the free event will provide a forum for local companies to showcase products and services to seniors.

TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PLANNED

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance workers plan to help low- and moderate-income taxpayers complete their annual personal tax returns from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays starting Feb. 19 through April 14 at the Centennial Hills Community Center, 6601 N. LIBRARY TO HOST BLOOD DRIVE

The meeting room inside the Centennial Hills Library, 6711 N. Buffalo Drive, is scheduled to host a blood drive with the American Red Cross from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 19. HOSPITAL TO HOST CARDIO CLINIC

Centennial Hills Hospital, 6900 N. Durango Drive, is set to host a free cardio clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 20.

All ages are invited to take advantage of free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, along with a hospital-sponsored question-and-answer session with Centennial Hills’ cardiac and stroke coordinators. Registration is not required.

SENIOR BENEFITS FORUM PLANNED AT ADULT CENTER

The Nevada Delegation of the National Silver Haired Congress is seeking nominations for its Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year award.

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, BLM PLAN FEE-FREE DAYS FOR 2014

The National Park Service is offering opportunities in 2014 to enjoy national parks without paying an entrance fee. Those dates are Feb. 15-17, Presidents’ Day weekend; April 19 and 20, National Park Week’s opening weekend; Aug. 25, National Park Service birthday; Sept. 27, National Public Lands Day; and Nov. 11, Veterans Day Weekend.

HOMESCHOOLING GROUP SEEKS TEACHING VOLUNTEERS

MASTER GARDENERS TO HOST KIDS GARDENING CLASSES

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Junior Master Gardener program plans to offer hands-on gardening activities from 9 a.m. to noon every other Saturday at the Clark County Center for Urban Food Production, 4600 Horse Road.

Children ages 7-12 are invited to attend. The eight-session-per-semester class fee is $50. Students must register to participate.

The Red Rock Audubon Society hosts bird walks at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road, starting at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month. MOUNT CHARLESTON SEEKS SNOW PLAY VOLUNTEERS

The U.S. Forest Service is seeking volunteers to be a Snow Play Host on Mount Charleston. Every winter weekend, thousands of people flock to the mountains to play in the snow, and hosts will look to encourage visitors to have fun while reducing impact on the forest.

Hosts will also be asked to provide roadside information about snow play opportunities and engage visitors at snow play sites.

Volunteers must be 18 or older and able to work outdoors in cold conditions. Hosts are expected to work weekends and holidays, with shifts of three to six hours, through March.

The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center plans to offer 25 weekly fitness classes for adults 50 or older from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

Classes include yoga, cardio dance and tai chi. Cost is $15 per month and includes free use of the YMCA weight room and indoor lap pool for a limited time.
