THE WEEK'S BEST BETS

1. Public Mural Painting: The event featuring 50 volunteers is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 6 at the old Ukulele Lounge building, 620 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The Cultural Corridor Coalition selected artist Eric Vozzola to design the mural. A grant of $3,791 from the city of Las Vegas made the project possible. Other sponsors include Zappos, which is set to provide volunteers and a food truck to feed the volunteers, as well as AllPro Painters, which is set to prime the building with paint donated by Cashman Center. Dunn-Edwards Paints is donating paint and other materials to be used for creating the mural itself.

2. Tribute to Judy Garland: David de Alba plans to present a live tribute to Judy Garland at 2:30 p.m Nov. 8 in the Jewel Box Theatre at the Erotic Heritage Museum, 3275 Industrial Road. Honor Ride Las Vegas: The self-paced, non-competitive cycling event that raises funds for Ride 2 Recovery is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Nov. 7 at the MGM Festival Lot across from Luxor, 3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The public is invited to join the country's healing heroes on one of three routes (20, 40, or 70 miles). Breakfast is set be provided pre-ride. Fall suit drive: The United Way of Southern Nevada's Women's Leadership Council plans to host its annual one-day suit drive from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 in the parking lot of NV Energy, 6226 W. Sahara Ave. Donate suits and other professional items including dresses, shoes, handbags and jewelry for women in need. The drive helps women prepare for career opportunities and gain confidence to succeed during job interviews and in the workplace. Holiday Cactus Garden: Ethel M Chocolates, 2 Cactus Garden Drive, plans to kick off the 22nd annual attraction from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10. The countdown to the lighting of more than 500,000 colorful lights is set for 6 p.m. More than 70 percent of the lights this year will be LED, the business said. Radio host Mercedes from MIX 94.1-FM is slated to be the master of ceremonies, with holiday entertainment provided by Las Vegas Strip performers from "Human Nature" and the Jabbawockeez, as well as the Sin City Opera. The evening is set to feature photos with Santa, chocolate samples, face painters, balloon artists, raffles and more. The event is free, but tickets are required. Moapa Valley Art Guild Pomegranate Arts Festival: The 20th annual festival is set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 and 7 at the Clark County Fairgrounds, 1301 Whipple Ave., in Logandale, about 60 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Golf Fore Recovery Charity Golf Tournament: Foundation for Recovery's eighth annual tournament is set for 8 a.m. Nov. 9 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle. Funds raised will support the foundation's addiction and mental health recovery services in Southern Nevada, including a free peer recovery support center and a youth initiative, Helping Young People Experience Recovery, which focuses on helping adolescents and young adults live healthy lives.
