4. Guns'n'Hoses:Police officers and firefighters from across Southern Nevada are set to square off Sept. 5 in a friendly rivalry on the Peter Johann Soccer Field on the campus of UNLV, 4505 S. The family-friendly event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with pre-soccer game activities, including K-9 and SWAT unit demonstrations, police car and fire truck displays, a search and rescue helicopter exhibit, CPR training and a children's photo ID and fingerprinting station. Cosmopolitan art exhibit: The P3Studio artist-in-residence Brent Sommerhauser's exhibit is set for viewing through Sept. 13 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South, from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 6 to 11 p.m. Sundays. Sommerhauser plans to introduce guests to kiln-formed glass, demonstrating the process of working with it and allowing them to create small sketches in glass by layering color combinations of glass powder, glass strings and other glass elements over Bullseye handmade glass tiles that Sommerhauser will fire in his Olympic glass kilns. The resulting tiles will be photographed and shared on his Instagram account @P3ArtGlass. Then, the tiles will be combined to contribute to a growing work that will serve as a record of those who participated, filling P3Studio with light, color and pattern. Electrics Over Red Rock Festival:The Las Vegas Soaring Club plans a swap meet, barbecue and raffle during its first all-day, open electric flying festival set for Sept. 5 at the landing strip on the north side of West Charleston Boulevard between the last housing complex and the entrance to the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center.
