Jesse Dwyer was named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s 2013 Winter Academic Team.
Dwyer, a senior at Malone University in Canton, Ohio, is a member of the varsity swim team.
To receive this honor, athletes must participate in a winter sport, possess at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be an active member on the roster at the end of the season and have completed at least one year at their institution.
Dwyer spent the summer working with and training dolphins at Marineland Dolphin Adventure in St. Augustine, Fla.
A 2010 graduate of Spring Valley High School, Dwyer is the son of Jeff and Karen Dwyer of Las Vegas.
John Burgess has received his Associate of Arts degree from Kaplan College and was chosen valedictorian of the school’s criminal justice program. A 2001 graduate of Las Vegas High School’s Partnership at Las Vegas Program, Burgess is the son of Tonya Dupuis of Breaux Bridge, La.
David Coupel, 14, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.
A member of Troop 508, he performed flood control work for owl habitats at Gilcrease Orchard for his Eagle project.
He enjoys basketball, snorkeling, traveling, cycling and football.
Coupel is the son of Venera Burchiyan and stepson of Ben Rabinowitz of Las Vegas.
Alexandria Fraga has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.
She earned distinction as an honor graduate.
Fraga is the daughter of Daniel Fraga of Las Vegas and Tammy Matthiesen of Mansfeild, Wash.
Jazmin Mutter-Bogarin has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.
She earned distinction as an honor graduate.
Mutter-Bogarin is a 2003 graduate of Las Vegas High School and earned an associate degree in 2009 from the College of Southern Nevada.
She is the daughter of Maria Robinson of Las Vegas.
Christopher Ruiz has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
