Henderson mayor proclaims Aug. 21 as Henderson First Senior Citizen Day

Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen presented HopeLink of Southern Nevada with a declaration of Aug. 21 as Henderson First Senior Citizen Day, calling on Henderson businesses and philanthropists to consider donating to HopeLink. With an audience of 150 business professionals at the Henderson Chamber Business Breakfast, Hafen encouraged local businesses to support local charities first, citing SeniorLink, the 55-plus assistance program offered by HopeLink as an example of charity efforts targeting crisis needs in the senior populations of Southern Nevada.

Hafen also presented a similar proclamation made by Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman for the same day and cause. Both proclamations stressed the urgent need for corporate and individual giving to ease the plight of our aging communities, where, in Henderson, one in three residents are seniors, and in Las Vegas, the numbers are one in four.

Individual donations can be made at link2hope.org. Corporate donors interested in investing in HopeLink programs for seniors, children and families in crisis can call Karen Kyger, executive director, at 702-566-0576, ext. 333.
