4. Las Vegas National Horse Show: The event is planned through Nov. 15 at the South Point Arena, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South, with the Grand Prix event planned for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14. Competitors include Rich Fellers, FEI World Cup Finals champion and Olympian; Margie Engle, Olympian and Pan American Team silver medalist; Richard Spooner, three-time winner of the Monte Carlo Grand Prix and National Cup gold medalist; Will Simpson, Olympic gold medalist; and Reed Kessler, National Cups Finals member and youngest Olympic competitor. International show jumpers include Matt Williams from Australia, Kevin Babington from Ireland, and Eduardo Menezes from Brazil. In addition, the arena is set to host additional show jumping competitions with riders through Nov. 13. Photo contest: The city of Henderson's seventh annual What Makes Henderson Great! photo contest is underway, with entries due Jan. 5. Those who enter the free contest can submit up to five images, which must reflect positive aspects of living, working or enjoying recreation in the city. Entries can include landscapes, landmarks, friends, animals, abstract, sports, portraits and other types of photos. To enter the contest, participants can use the hashtag #WMHG15 on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve: Visitors to the preserve during fall can see migratory waterfowl and returning shore birds. Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest: The city of Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission is accepting entries for the annual contest through Nov. 30. The free contest is open to the first 50 entries from single-family residential homes within city limits. The six categories are: patriotic; children's theme; best holiday theme; most innovative; Griswold, featuring homes inspired by the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation"; and street/neighborhood, for groups of homes within a neighborhood or on a street, with at least three homes participating together. Commission members plan to tour homes to evaluate the entries Dec. 7. Winners are set to be announced at the city's annual WinterFest celebration at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Family History Jamboree: Area family history director Todd Larkin is set to be the keynote speaker at the 13th annual Las Vegas Nevada Stake Family History Jamboree, an event slated to feature more than 40 classes on exploring family history from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Nov. 14 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Lorenzi Chapel, 221 Lorenzi St. Classes are planned for everyone from beginners to advanced students. Lung Force Walk: The annual event is planned for noon Nov. 14 at Kellogg-Zaher Park, 7901 W. Washington Ave., to raise funds for those who have lung cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other lung diseases. Presented by Kindred Hospital Las Vegas, the event also is set to include jump houses, contests and a Survivor Stride Walk for those affected by lung diseases, as well as a Breathe Deeper and Mission Area where walkers can receive health and wellness information and additional health screenings. Check-in is at 10 a.m., with the walk at noon. A Catch Big Air Contest is set for 1 p.m. Participation in the walk is free, and teams are welcome; however, participants are encouraged to raise funds for the American Lung Association's mission. Fall plant sales: The Nevada Division of Forestry State Tree Nursery in Las Vegas plans to host fall plant sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9600 Tule Springs Road. More than 60 species of native and desert-adapted trees and shrubs will be available, including plants appropriate for Mount Charleston and mid-upper elevation environments. Local experts will be on site to help with species choice and give planting advice. One-gallon plants will be $5, 5-gallon plants will be $10, and 15-gallon plants will be $15. Water district open house: In celebration of its 60th year of the facility's operations, the Clark County Water Reclamation District is set to host an open house with tours of its Flamingo Water Resource Center scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 at 5857 E. Flamingo Road. Wastewater treatment plant operations began in 1956 at a small facility on Monson Road (now East Flamingo), serving 500 customers at what was described as the remote east end of the valley. The facility is now the largest water reclamation facility in Nevada, with more than 235,000 customers, treating and returning more than 100 million gallons of water to the environment every day. The event is also set to include informational and educational displays.

"God Lives In Glass": The performance to benefit The Smith Center's Education and Outreach Program is scheduled at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave. The concert features an original score written by "Jersey Boys" conductor and Composer's Showcase founder/host Keith Thompson with musical styles ranging from pop to gospel, classical to blues, and reggae to R&B, inspired by Dr. Robert J. Las Vegas TransPride Week: The Center, 401 S. Maryland Parkway, is set to serve as the host location for several Las Vegas TransPride Week events Nov. 17-22. The events are set to include workshops, a TransPride Film Festival, a Transgender Day of Awareness, a Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil and the Trans Glam Gala Awards. Center board member Jeremy Wallace, author of the autobiography "Taking the Scenic Route to Manhood," will serve as keynote speaker. Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway: The event featuring a 2.5-mile, drive-through holiday light display is scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday and holidays Nov. 13 through Jan. 3. Tickets are $20 per vehicle and $55 for a season pass. Buses are $1 per person with a minimum charge of $20. Goodwill of Southern Nevada offers discounted entry coupons for Glittering Lights with a donation of goods. Santa's Arrival Parade: The event is scheduled at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South. It is set to start at the West Valet near Yard House and end at Santa's House in Town Square Park. Once he reaches Town Square Park, Santa and his little helpers will spread holiday cheer by lighting the 45-foot Christmas tree followed by the center's Snow in the Square show. Rock Rink: The Rock Rink, the public skating rink at Downtown Summerlin, 1980 Festival Plaza Drive, is set to be open daily starting Nov. 20 near the Pavilion on the northwest side of the property at Rosemary Park Drive and Summa Drive. Chocolate lovers, foodies and wine drinkers can enjoy culinary bites, cocktails and wine from restaurants and shops around the valley. While listening to the bands MO5AIC and Empire Records, guests can also bid on silent auction items, including entertainment packages, beauty baskets, jewelry, art dining experiences and more. Hawkins, a researcher, spiritual teacher and lecturer. She plans to include information gathered from Hawkins' research that is believed to help raise consciousness for living your life purpose as indicated in your fingerprints.
