The beds have engraved signage bearing the names of the roses, the varieties and the year of market introduction. The garden recently received a certificate of achievement in the Small Garden class during the national Sunshine ‘n Roses Pacific Southwest District’s annual convention. Fit Lives Here Event Series: The 8K Trail Mix and 5K Road Race are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. May 14 at Skye Canyon Park, 10111 W. Skye Canyon Park Drive. Registration ranges from $25 to $50 and includes a T-shirt and a goodie bag. A 1-mile family fun run or walk is also planned. The 5K and 1-mile races are set to travel through Skye Canyon’s neighborhoods, while the 8K will start on the road and venture onto nearby trails. Red Rock marathon: Triple Dare Running Co. plans its spring race, the Flight of Fire Trail Half Marathon & 10K, for May 14 at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. Starting at the Visitor Center, the course will travel clockwise to the Moenkopi Loop, the Grand Circle Loop, and the White Rock-Willow Springs Trail, then to the White Rock dirt road, back to the Grand Circle Loop, on to the Calico Hills Trail, and finally back to the Moenkopi Loop, finishing back at the center. This course is a technical trail race, and trail shoes with gaiters are recommended. The 10K follows the same course, ending at the White Rock aid station. Bike rodeo: The MountainView Hospital Bike Rodeo is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 at the hospital’s south parking lot, 3150 N. Tenaya Way. Kids can navigate the bike course, get a bike safety check, enter a raffle to win a bike, pick up a new helmet courtesy of Land Rover Las Vegas, talk with Metropolitan Police Department officers about bike safety and pick up route maps from the RTC. Fallen Heroes run: The Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation announced its fourth annual Fallen Heroes 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run, planned for 8 a.m. on Armed Forces Day, May 14, at Bruce Trent Park, 8851 Vegas Drive. Both courses are to circle around the park decorated with the combat boots and photos memorializing fallen service members. Proceeds will benefit military families.
