MJ Christensen to host Diamond Dig

Guests can purchase scoops from a special sandbox filled with gemstones at the second annual Diamond Dig scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Henderson MJ Christensen, 10400 S. Eastern Ave.

One guest could win the grand prize, a pear-shaped diamond pendant valued at more than $1,600. Admission to the event is free. Digs are $10 each. Proceeds will go to Dress for Success Southern Nevada. Members of the Little Black Dress Club, a Dress for Success donor program, get one dig for free.

WEBSITE INSTRUCTS RESIDENTS ABOUT 10-digit dialing, NEW AREA CODE

A new website, dial10digits.org, has been created to explain the start of 10-digit telephone dialing in Clark County and the formation of the 725 area code.

Clark County is slated to transition into dialing a 10-digit number over the next nine months. The 10-digit dialing is scheduled to take effect May 3, 2014.

HENDERSON MATCHES VOLUNTEERS WITH OPPORTUNITIES

Henderson residents seeking to volunteer are encouraged to check out the city of Henderson’s Volunteer Partnership Program, which matches people and groups with opportunities to serve by matching skills and interests to needs.

The website lists hundreds of volunteers registered in categories ranging from clerical work to cleanups. Groups or people also in need of volunteers can register projects at cityofhenderson.com.

HENDERSON SEEKS HUBCAP Artists

The city of Henderson is seeking artists for its second annual SuperRun Hubcap Art Gallery, scheduled for Sept. 27-29 at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.

Participants are encouraged to transform hubcaps into art pieces. Hubcaps cost $5 and can be purchased until Aug. 28.
