Highlighting achievements, Aug. 4, 2016 — PHOTOS

Cadet honored: Cadet Hunter Brown, a graduate of Centennial High School, received the North American Aviation Outstanding Achievement Award. He is set to attend the USAF Academy Preparatory School and is the son of Kody and Janelle Brown of Las Vegas.

Sailor promoted: Navy sailor Jesse Lamb of Henderson was recently promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class. Lamb is a 2011 Green Valley High School graduate. He is a gas turbine system mechanic on USS Vella Gulf, currently in port in Norfolk, Va. He is the son of Lanny and Laurie Lamb of Henderson.

No Place for Hate: Forty-one schools participated in the Anti-Defamation League’s No Place for Hate Anti-Bullying Initiative during the 2015-16 school year, and those recognized during the recognition ceremony May 26 were: Bass Elementary School, Beatty Elementary School, Bilbray Elementary School, Bowler Elementary School, Cambeiro Elementary School, French Elementary School, Kim Elementary School, May Elementary School, Piggott Academy of International Studies, Scherkenbach Elementary School, Jim Thorpe Elementary School, Twin Lakes Elementary School, Virgin Valley Elementary School, Saville Middle School, Sedway Middle School, West Preparatory Academy, Arbor View High School, Desert Oasis High School, Las Vegas High School, Rancho High School, Valley High School, West Career and Technical Academy, and Western High School.

Senior dancer: Paige Bremner of Henderson won Senior National Dancer of the Year at Rainbow Nationals in Wisconsin July 6. She began studying dance five years ago under Jane Maurer of Astudia Dance World. Bremner has been accepted into the Dance Bachelor of Fine Arts program at UNLV as an incoming freshman.

Honors congress: Luke Gabriel Gatchalian, a 10th-grader at West Career and Technical Academy, attended the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Lowell, Ma., June 25-27. The congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields.

Musical Theater Awards: The Smith Center for the Performing Arts hosted the fourth annual Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards May 29, recognizing Nevada’s high school theater students. Two students’ performances were named Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress, and were presented with the Dr. Keith Boman Prize: Deimoni Brewington of Las Vegas Academy and Mariah Martin of Calvary Chapel Christian School. In addition to the top prize, two students received the Spotlight Award: Connor Freeman of Green Valley High School and Jessica Vanek of Las Vegas Academy.

Dean’s list:

— Jacob Horst of Las Vegas made the spring 2016 dean’s list at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Penn.

— Summer Holloway of Henderson made the spring 2016 dean’s list at Simpson University in Redding, Calif.

— Kendall Nicole Cheval of Las Vegas made the spring 2016 dean’s list at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.

Graduates:

— John Tyler Flint of North Las Vegas graduated from Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt., May 15.

— Colleen Anderson of North Las Vegas graduated from the School of Social Work May 14 at Tulane University in New Orleans.
