Highlighting achievements, Sept. 15, 2016 — PHOTOS

Henderson performer: 10-year-old Alexandra Kouretas of Henderson will perform the national anthem before country music star Kellie Pickler’s concert at Henderson Pavilion on Nov. 6. Kouretas performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” recently at NBA Summer League.

Student honors: Clark High School freshman Eshaan Vakil won seven medals at the International History Olympiad from July 17-24. Vakil won gold in art history while also taking home four silver and two bronze medals. The top 85 history students from around the world participated.

Local sailor: Petty Officer 3rd Class Meghan Ambrose from Las Vegas is a machinist’s mate on the USS Chung-Hoon in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. A 2011 graduate from Arbor View High School, Ambrose is currently working on the world’s largest international maritime warfare execrise, the Rim of the Pacific Exercise.

Student scholarships: Five Clark County students were honored with $1,000 scholarships from the Vegas Viking Lodge of the Sons of Norway. Alisiana Brooks, Hannah Colarusso, Chelsey Honrud, Katherine Reed, and Emmalee Torgesen all received the distinction.

Honor Rolls:

— Wei Lin of Las Vegas was named to the dean’s list at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for the spring 2016 semester.

— John T. Flint of North Las Vegas was named to the dean’s list at Saint Michael’s College in Vermont for the spring 2016 semester.

— Jeremy Hyde and Curtis Simmons, both of Henderson, and Jiajie Feng of Las Vegas all graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans for the spring 2016 semester.

— Georgiana DeLio of Las Vegas was named to the dean’s list at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, S.C., for the spring 2016 semester.

— Leandra Thacker of Henderson was named to the dean’s list at Alvernia University in Reading, Penn., for the spring 2016 semester.

— Sean Christopher Randles and Kaylynn Rae Butchko, both of Las Vegas, were both named to the dean’s list for the spring 2016 semester.

Graduations:

— Troy White (associate’s degree in arts) and Paulina Zeng (master’s degree of fine art), both of Las Vegas, received their degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for the spring 2016 semester.
