ENROLLMENT ASSISTANCE TO BE AVAILABLE FOR AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is partnering with East Valley Family Services to provide information and enrollment sessions at several libraries for the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare.

A session is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Jan. 7 at the the Enterprise Library 25 E. Shelbourne Ave., where enrollment assistance is set to be available. Visit lvccld.org or call 702-507-3760.

COUNCILMAN BARLOW TO HOST COFFEE MEETUP WITH CONSTITUENTS

A Ward 5 Coffee with the Councilman event is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. Jan. 9 at Starbucks, 751 N. Rancho Drive.

MASTER GARDENER HONORED FOR 20,000 VOLUNTEER HOURS

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension recently honored Master Gardener Richard Leifried for contributing more than 20,000 volunteer hours on Master Gardener projects.

The time exceeded the minimum of 50 hours annually that Master Gardener program volunteers are committed to for community service projects.

Leifried volunteers regularly on the Home Gardening Help Line and helps organize the monthly membership meetings.

CITY COUNCIL HONORS LIBRARY DISTRICT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Las Vegas City Council recognized the work of Las Vegas-Clark County Library District executive director Jeanne Goodrich at the Dec. 18 City Council meeting.

Goodrich was recently named Librarian of the Year by the Nevada Library Association.

CITY EMPLOYEE RECEIVES AWARD FROM GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL

City of Las Vegas employee Marco Velotta received the 2013 Individual Award for Organizational Excellence on Dec. 5 at the U.S. Green Building Council’s Nevada Green Gala at the Nevada State Museum.

Velotta was recognized for his ongoing contributions to the city of Las Vegas and the community, advocating for healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.

REGISTRATION TO END FOR ARTS CENTER CLASSES

Registration for classes at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd., is set to end Jan. 4.

Classes are set to include African dance for children, tap, ballet, video and documentary creation, piano and others.

YARN BOMB ART INSTALLATION WORKSHOP PLANNED

Registration for a Yarn Bomb Workshop is set to end Jan. 10.

The workshop, for anyone 11 or older, is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 15-Feb. 19, at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

Participants are set to learn the art installation technique that involves attaching crocheted yarn pieces over objects.

The class costs $39.
