Shoot for seniors clay shooting event scheduled to aid food pantry

Helping Hands of Vegas Valley plans a Shoot for Seniors sporting clay shoot on May 17 at Pro Gun Club, 12801 U.S. 95 in Boulder City.

Check in between 7 and 7:30 a.m. for a day full of shooting, food and raffle prizes.

Cost is $700 for a foursome, $200 for individuals.

Bring your own shotgun or rent one for $25.

Donation includes sporting clays, lunch catered by Memphis Championship Barbecue and one drink ticket.

Proceeds will benefit Helping Hands of Vegas Valley’s food pantry, transportation services and respite care voucher program.

The 2013 Henderson Senior Games are scheduled for April 6-28 at a variety of Henderson locations including recreation centers, parks and schools.

Sports include table tennis, tennis, basketball skills, track and field, bowling, volleyball and pickleball.

Registration has begun for free tax form preparation for seniors by AARP at several Las Vegas senior centers. Income restrictions apply.

Henderson chamber to host
swing for success golf classic

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce plans the Swing for Success Golf Classic on April 22 at Anthem Country Club, 1 Club Side Drive, in Henderson.

Registration and continental breakfast begin at 6:30 a.m., with a shotgun start and four-person scramble at 7:30 a.m.

A luncheon at Anthem Country Club and presentation of team and contest winners is set for 12:30 p.m.

The cost to participate is $900 per foursome or $225 for individuals.

Entry includes greens fee, golf cart, on-course contests, tee gift package, breakfast and awards lunch.

Proceeds will benefit Nevada State College.

Red hat group to offer luncheon

The city of Las Vegas and the Purple Passions Red Hat group from the Las Vegas Senior Center plan a luncheon with entertainment and door prizes at 11:30 a.m. April 25 at 451 E. Bonanza Road.

Cultural center plans
overnight trip to Getty museum

The Winchester Cultural Center plans a trip for seniors to the J. Paul Getty Museum in Southern California on May 21-22.

Seniors will depart the center, at 3130 S. McLeod Drive, at 7 a.m. May 21 and return at 9 p.m. May 22.

Cost for the trip is $134.50 per person for a double room or $215.50 for a single room and includes transportation, tickets to the museum and an overnight hotel stay.

Meals are not included, and trip fees are nonrefundable.

Free walking groups sponsored
by Humana guidance centers

Certified personal trainers will lead free walking groups in a program aimed at positively impacting seniors’ health by motivating them to improve their fitness level and mental outlook.

Each participant will receive a free pedometer to keep track of their steps taken, distance and calories burned.

In Summerlin, the group is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Locations vary.
