Seniors are invited to participate in a friendly competition with a blend of sporting and social events for athletes of all skill levels 50 or older.

The 2013 Henderson Senior Games are scheduled for April 6-28 at a variety of Henderson locations including recreation centers, parks and schools.

Sports include table tennis, tennis, basketball skills, track and field, bowling, volleyball and pickleball.

Registration is open through March 15 and costs $15 per person. There is also a $3-$5 cost per event.

Registration has begun for free tax form preparation for seniors by AARP at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

cultural center plans overnight trip to getty museum

The Winchester Cultural Center plans a trip for seniors to the J. Paul Getty Museum in Southern California on May 21-22.

Seniors will depart the center, at 3130 S. McLeod Drive, at 7 a.m. May 21 and return at 9 p.m. May 22.

Cost for the trip is $134.50 per person for a double room or $215.50 for a single room and includes transportation, tickets to the museum and an overnight hotel stay.

Meals are not included, and trip fees are nonrefundable.

free walking groups sponsored by humana guidance centers

Certified personal trainers will lead free walking groups in a program aimed at positively impacting seniors’ health by motivating them to improve their fitness level and mental outlook.

Each participant will receive a free pedometer to keep track of their steps taken, distance and clories burned.

In Summerlin, the group is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Locations vary.

Scrapbooking and card making workshop planned at adult center

The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center invites members of the public to bring a project they’re working on and share or receive crafting ideas at workshops scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

LUPUS OF NEVADA to host SUPPORT MEETING

Lupus of Nevada is scheduled to host a monthly support meeting from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month at Superior Health Solutions, 1661 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.

The next session is slated for March 16.

Support meetings are designed to offer emotional and educational support for those with lupus.

The meeting is free, but reservations are required.

LAS VEGAS ACADEMY ALUMNI CELEBRATION SCHEDULED FOR MARCH

The Las Vegas Academy Alumni Association’s 20th anniversary celebration is scheduled for March 29 and 30. It is set to feature a talent show, a silent auction fundraiser and a picnic.

NEUROPSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM LOOKING FOR RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Neuropsychology Research Program is looking for participants for an ongoing study on bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The research team at UNLV hopes to gain an understanding into cognitive and behavioral processes associated with daily function in order to learn about the neural mechanisms associated with severe mental illness and improve treatment interventions. Participants will be asked to do a variety of tests that will take approximately five hours and will be compensated $10 per hour.
