Pioneer Day:Visitors are invited to experience the sights, smells and tastes of the Nevada frontier with Dutch oven cooking, pack animals, blacksmithing, live 19th century music, arts and crafts, and costumed interpreters bringing the past to life from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 6375 state Route 159, about 10 miles west of the 215 Beltway. 4. Better Blocks Live:The pop-up event hosted by the Urban Land Institute, in partnership with the Hope Home Foundation, the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtor's Commercial Alliance, the National Association of REALTORS, Clark County and the city of Las Vegas, is set to transform the southwest corner of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard in the Sahara Pavilion Shopping Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 as part of a smart-growth project. A home fair is planned in an empty retail space to offer area residents information on down payment assistance programs, low-interest loans and affordable housing options. A live charrette will gather information from attendees regarding the kinds of services and businesses they would like to see in their neighborhood. A pancake breakfast, bicycle decoration and staging, and a bicycle parade hosted by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada are planned for Saturday, while vendors, entertainment, prize drawings and a hot dog giveaway are planned for Saturday and Sunday. Brazilian Outdoor Festival: The second annual Brazilian Outdoor Festival is planned from 4 to 10 p.m. Sept. 20 at Via Brasil Steakhouse, 1225 S. Fort Apache Road. A celebration of Brazilian Independence Day and a showcase of the culture and cuisine of Brazil, the event is set to feature live entertainment with bands, samba dancers and Capoeira performances, along with traditional Brazilian food and drinks. Super Run Classic Car Show: The 16th annual event is planned Sept. 24-27 in the Water Street District, featuring 1,000 vehicles, including hot rods, muscle cars and vintage automobiles from across the nation. A kickoff for the free event is slated from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Fiesta Henderson, 777 W. Lake Mead Parkway, and festivities are set to start at 10 a.m. Sept. 25-27. Entertainment is slated to include local country band Crossroad South at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 Water St. Also planned is a pancake breakfast benefiting the nonprofit Honor Flight of Southern Nevada, along with a bounce house, a mini Ferris wheel, a book signing by local race car drivers and automotive vendors and exhibitors. National Public Lands Day: Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area plans to celebrate National Public Lands Day from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Red Spring/Calico Basin, where volunteers are needed to help restore the Red Spring boardwalk and to clean trails.
