In a valley packed with events, it’s never too early to start planning your year. Here’s a look at some of the entertainment happenings scheduled for 2014:
THE SMITH CENTER
The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave., has a variety of performances listed for its 2014 program. The musical featuring ABBA’s greatest hits, “Mamma Mia!,” is scheduled from Jan. 7-12. William Shatner is scheduled to perform his one-man show “Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It,” on Jan. 20. “Flashdance: the Musical” is scheduled Jan. 28-Feb. 2. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is scheduled to perform on March 22, and from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, “The Book of Mormon” is scheduled from June 10 to July 6.
“2014 is going to be a very exciting year for The Smith Center,” said president and CEO Myron Martin. “With the recent announcement of our first-ever co-production, ‘The Tempest,’ to the highly anticipated Broadway smash ‘The Book of Mormon’ debuting in June, patrons will have the opportunity to experience a myriad of Broadway productions, renowned performers from the realms of music and dance and a world premiere in our own Symphony Park.”

HELLDORADO DAYS SET TO MOVE
Helldorado Days, which includes five days of rodeo action, is scheduled from May 14-18 at its new location in Symphony Park, on Symphony Park Avenue and Grand Central Parkway. The event is set to feature a locals’ rodeo, a Fiesta del Charro rodeo, a three-day Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo and a parade. This year’s event will also include a Nevada 150 theme.

ELECTRIC DAISY FESTIVAL
The Electric Daisy Festival is scheduled to return for its fourth year to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The country’s largest electronic dance music festival is scheduled for June 20-22. The capacity for the 2014 event is expected to rise to accommodate about 130,000 fans nightly.

LAS VEGAS LITTLE THEATRE
The Las Vegas Little Theatre, 3920 Schiff Drive, is slated to finish its season with four main productions.
“Barefoot in the Park,” a comedy by Neil Simon, is set for Jan. 10-26. “And Then There Were None,” a murder mystery by Agatha Christie, is set for Feb. 14-March 2; “Picnic,” a drama by William Inge, is set for March 28-April 13; and “Other Desert Cities,” a contemporary drama comedy by Jon Robin Baitz, is set for May 2-18.
“(The season) is going great. We’ve had some really great shows,” said Walter Niejadlik, theater president. “We’ve got some big casts coming up, so we’re hoping to see some new faces audition. We’re hoping the community continues to come out and support our productions as well.”
