Blick Art Materials grand opening: Blick Art Materials plans to host a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting for its new retail store at 6300 W. Charleston Blvd. at 9 a.m. Aug. 27. The first 100 guests will receive a gift tote filled with premium art supplies. Blick is also donating $500 to local art organization Push Forward Skateboarding of the Metro Arts Council of Southern Nevada, which works with at-risk youths through art and skateboarding programs. Local artist Ruzo Logic is set to be on site with his "Guerilla Kages" art panels, joined by a team of spray-painting artists to do a live demonstration. A DJ and food truck also are planned. Mount Charleston night hike: A night hike is planned from 8 to 9 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Spring Mountain Visitor Gateway, 2750 Kyle Canyon Road on Mount Charleston. Experience the Spring Mountains after dark and put your senses to the test to learn about the adaptations of nocturnal animals. Registration is required, and the cost is $5 per person for children and adults. The hike is rated easy, with mostly paved paths over small hills. Flashlights are suggested but not required. Parking is set to open at 5 p.m., and meadow seating at 6 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or rent a chair in general admission grass seating. Cosmopolitan art exhibit: The P3Studio artist-in-residence Brent Sommerhauser's exhibit is set for viewing through Sept. 13 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South, from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 6 to 11 p.m. Sundays. Sommerhauser plans to introduce guests to kiln-formed glass, demonstrating the process of working with it and allowing them to create small sketches in glass by layering color combinations of glass powder, glass strings and other glass elements over Bullseye handmade glass tiles that Sommerhauser will fire in his Olympic glass kilns. The resulting tiles will be photographed and shared on his Instagram account @P3ArtGlass. Then, the tiles will be combined to contribute to a growing work that will serve as a record of those who participated, filling P3Studio with light, color and pattern.
