SUMMERLIN HOSPITAL TO HOST BLOOD DRIVE JAN. 21

A blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross is planned from 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 21 at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center, 657 N. Town Center Drive.

Look for the bloodmobile near the main entrance of the hospital.

INFORMATION SESSION ON STROKES PLANNED AT SUMMERLIN HOSPITAL

A session on emotional and behavioral changes after a stroke, including tips for survivors and caregivers, is set for 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center, 657 N. Town Center Drive, in the first-floor conference center.

Psychologist Dr. Roberta Osgood is set to discuss the topic to help stroke survivors, family, friends and caregivers cope with some of the emotional and behavioral changes following a stroke.

LIFE TIME ATHLETIC TO HOST YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

Life Time Athletic Summerlin, 10721 W. Charleston Blvd., plans to host a three-day yoga teacher training at 6 p.m. Jan. 24-26.

The course will cover all topics required to become a restorative and yin yoga instructor, such as the history of yin yoga, sequencing of poses, adjustment do’s and don’ts and more.

TRAVEL CLUB MEMBERS TO GATHER JAN. 28 AT TAP HOUSE

The Las Vegas Singles Travel and Social Club plans to meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd. The club is a group of mature singles who are interested in local, national and international travel.

The club meets the fourth Tuesday of every month, with a half-hour of social time planned before each meeting. Meetings consist of a short business portion and a guest speaker. January’s scheduled speaker is Joyce Kort, who will offer details about her recent cruise in the Caribbean.

Registered nurse Diana Grimmesey plans to discuss how the warning signs of a stroke can look like ordinary symptoms.

TUMBLING FOR CHEERLEADERS PLANNED AT LEISURE SERVICES CENTER

Tumbling classes for those ages 8 to 15 are set for Saturdays through May 9 at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

Learn skills such as cartwheels, round-offs, handsprings, walkovers, splits and forward/backward rolls (no lifts, stunts or aerials).

USTA PLANS PARENTS AND CHILD TENNIS CLINICS AT TIVOLI VILLAGE

The United States Tennis Association-Nevada plans to host parents and child tennis clinics Feb. 2 at Tivoli Village, 302 S. Rampart Blvd. Clinic times are 1:30 to 2 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 and 2 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 6 to 8.

Tennis clinics are planned on the first Sunday of every month at Tivoli Village.

NEWCOMERS CLUB TO MEET FEB. 5

The Westside Newcomers Club plans to host a coffee event for prospective members at 9:15 a.m. Feb. 5 at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane. The coffee event is set to take place the first Wednesday of each month.

The club is for women who have lived in the area for 10 years or less or for those who have a life-changing event, such as retirement. It offers a variety of activities. A luncheon with a program is planned for the second Wednesday of each month.

POST-TRAUMATIC SYNDROME TO BE STUDIED

Alternative health researcher Mark Rider is doing a study on Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Those experiencing PTSD are invited to participate in research that studies the effectiveness of energy healing on the disorder.

An energy healer himself, Rider will be directing the study, which will take place in Summerlin. Participants will fill in surveys and self-evaluations during the course of the study. No medications will be prescribed. The program provides energy work and possible suggestions for dietary change. There is no remuneration for participation.

YOUTH COUNCIL HOSTS BLANKET DRIVE

Members of the Youth Council at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, sponsored a blanket drive Nov. 18-Dec. 13 to render aid. Titled Grandma’s Cedar Chest, it collected new and gently used blankets, quilts and handmade afghans, which were delivered to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission on Dec. 17.

UNITED WAY RECEIVES $50,000 DONATION

United Way of Southern Nevada received a $50,000 check from Diamond Resorts International to aid in recovery after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Disbursed to the American Red Cross, these funds will help the victims rebuild their lives.

With employees who have family and friends in the stricken country, Diamond contributed this gift to help rebuild communities and provide relief for families affected by the storm.
