EARTH HOUR TO BE RECOGNIZED MARCH 29

The city of Las Vegas plans to mark Earth Hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 29 by having City Hall go dark for an hour. The city’s website also will “dim,” and KCLV Channel 2 programming will take a break to show the city’s commitment to sustainability and energy conservation.

Boyd Gaming also plans to join the effort by turning off non-essential exterior building and marquee lighting at The Orleans, Sam’s Town, the Suncoast and the Gold Coast. The video screen on each marquee will display the Earth Hour logo during that period.

TRAVEL AND SOCIAL CLUB TO MEET MARCH 25 AT TAP HOUSE

The Las Vegas Singles Travel and Social Club for mature singles plans to meet at 7 p.m. March 25 at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd. Anyone interested in local, national or international travel is welcome to attend.

The club meets the fourth Tuesday of every month. A half-hour of social time is held before the meeting, which consists of a short business portion and a guest speaker. March’s speaker is Rita Dorn, who will talk about her fall tour of New England and Eastern Canada.

SUMMERLIN HOSPITAL TO HOST BLOOD DRIVE MARCH 26

The Summerlin Hospital Medical Center, 657 N. Town Center Drive, plans to host a blood drive for the American Red Cross from 3 to 6 p.m. March 26.

Look for the bloodmobile near the hospital’s main entrance. Walk-ins are welcome, but sign-ups are highly recommended.

DOCTOR PLANS FREE TALK AT RED ROCK RESORT

Dr. Mark Leo of Urology Specialists of Nevada and president of the Las Vegas Urological Society, plans to present a men’s health seminar at 6 p.m. March 27 in Section E of the Summerlin Ballroom at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd.

The seminar will discuss the signs, symptoms and treatment options for erectile dysfunction and male stress urinary incontinence (bladder leakage).

The April Showers of Business Growth Expo is slated for 6 to 9 p.m. April 1 in the Grand Ballroom at the Suncoast, 9090 Alta Drive.

A free Women and Children’s Health Fair is set for 9 a.m. to noon April 5 in the main lobby at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center, 657 N. Town Center Drive.

Activities include more than 50 booths featuring health information, hospital tours, raffles and the opportunity to learn more about the hospital’s new Women’s Enlightened program. The sixth annual Walk With Me event is planned for 9 a.m. April 19 at W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7300 W. Alexander Road.

The morning is to be hosted by entertainer Earl Turner. He and others are set to lead the 2-mile walk to raise awareness and funds for Nevada residents living with disabilities through Easter Seals Nevada.

The 2014 Friends of Red Rock Canyon Photo Contest is slated to accept entries from 2 to 4 p.m. May 2 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3 and 4 at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. This year’s theme is the Nature and Wildlife of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Award categories are nature, wildlife, creative, monochromatic and professional.

All photos must be framed. The entry fee is $10 per photo, $8 for Friends of Red Rock members. First-place winners can win $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50.
