EMBRACING PROJECT PLANS FUNDRAISING CAR WASH

The Embracing Project, headquartered in the northwest, plans to host a fundraising car wash from noon to 5 p.m. March 13 at The Center 4 Peace, 3020 E. Charleston Blvd., Suite 117. Car washes will be $13, with proceeds supporting social consciousness programs for rehabilitated youths.

HONOR FLIGHTS SEEKING WWII VETERANS FOR FREE TRIPS

The nonprofit Honor Flights Southern Nevada is seeking World War II veterans to honor by providing them with a free trip to Washington, D.C., to visit the National World War II Memorial. The memorial was not completed until 2004, when many of these veterans were already in their 80s. But through Honor Flights, they get the chance to visit it, even if they need assistance getting around.

Honor Flights offers an organized, all-expenses-paid, escorted three-day trip to the memorials dedicated to veterans’ sacrifices. Guardians are required to pay their own way.

JEWISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY TO MEET MARCH 15

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada plans to host its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. March 15 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. A program exploring the genealogical research databases of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and libraries in general is planned.

The society’s programs are co-sponsored by the library district and are free and open to the public. Membership applications will be available at the meeting, and annual dues are $18 for indviduals and $25 for families.

WET’N’WILD LAS VEGAS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas, 7055 S. Fort Apache Road, has started the hiring process for more than 450 seasonal jobs. The water park is set to be open from April to September.

Seasonal positions available include lifeguards, admissions, guest services, emergency medical technicians, maintenance, food and beverage, retail, operations and security. Several seasonal supervisory positions also are available.

Applicants should begin the employment process at wetnwildlasvegas.com and click on “Employment” at the bottom of the page. The management team will review applications and contact selected applicants for interviews.

The minimum age requirement for employment is 16 at the time the park opens or 18, depending on the position. Detailed job descriptions and application instructions are available on the website.

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Nominations are being sought for Nevada’s Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone 60 or older who has lived in Nevada for at least five years is eligible to be nominated.

The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013. Las Vegas resident Raymonde Fiol, 77, was the 2014 recipient.

The deadline for nominations is March 31. Guidelines and nomination forms are available at nevshc.org or by calling 702-860-6349. The award will be presented in May.

MOJAVE MAX WATCH UNDERWAY AT RED ROCK CANYON

Although Mojave Max is still in brumation, the public is welcome to visit the desert tortoise in his habitat at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center and join the Mojave Max watch between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily. A special display has been set up where everyone can participate in predicting the time and date when Mojave Max will emerge from his burrow.

Clark County and partners host the annual Mojave Max Emergence Contest, education programs and school assemblies in support of Mojave Desert environmental education. As part of the contest, students are encouraged to guess when Mojave Max will first exit his burrow each year. To enter the contest, visit mojavemax.com and click on “Emergence Contest.”

SPRING MOUNTAIN RANCH STATE PARK NEEDS DOCENTS

The Spring Mountain Ranch State Park Docent Organization plans to start its next volunteer training class March 7. The nonprofit volunteer group is dedicated totally to the park at 6375 state Route 159 and works closely with the rangers. Docents greet visitors, give indoor and outdoor tours and interpret the historical, cultural and natural history of the ranch.

Docent classes are set for Saturdays March 7-April 25.

VIDEO GAME DESIGN CLASSES SET AT LIBRARIES

TechBrainiacs plans to offer introductory video game design classes children 9 to 15 at multiple Las Vegas-Clark County Library District branches.

JCC WEST TO HOST MONTHLY MOMMY & ME CLASSES

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada plans to offer Mommy & Me with a Jewish Twist for mothers and their newborns to 3-year-olds. The monthly classes are scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. March 6, April 12 and May 3 at the JCC West, 1400 N. Rampart Blvd., Suite 105, inside the Las Vegas Sports Park.

The holiday-themed classes will build socialization skills, increase confidence and enhance early learning.
