LIBRARY DISTRICT TO PRESENT INFORMATION SESSIONS ON AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is partnering with AARP, whose representatives plan to host free informational sessions regarding the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, including important dates and resources, how the act affects individuals and families and how to enroll in a health plan.
Nevada enrollment for health plans began in October and closes March 2014. To assist those members of the community who are not covered by employer- or government-provided (Medicare) healthcare, federally approved navigators/enrollment assisters will be available to guide the public through their various healthcare options.

UNITED WAY PLANS WOMEN’S SUIT DRIVE NOV. 1
United Way of Southern Nevada’s Women’s Leadership Council plans to host its annual one-day suit drive for women in need Nov. 1. Donations of women’s suits and other business attire are set to be accepted from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the NV Energy parking lot at 6226 W. Sahara Ave. Gently used professional attire should be clean and on a hanger.
The drive helps women prepare for career opportunities and gain confidence during job interviews and in the workplace. Last year’s effort collected more than 6,200 professional items, including suits, dresses, shoes, handbags and jewelry.

ROTARY CLUB PLANS TOAST TO TALENT FUNDRAISER
The Rotary Club of Las Vegas Summerlin plans to host Summerlin’s Toast to Talent from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Garfield’s Restaurant, 2620 Regatta Drive, Suite 117.
The fundraiser will benefit Spread the Word Nevada and The Foundation to Assist Young Musicians.
Tickets are $50 per person and include appetizers, performances by the Las Vegas Youth Philharmonic String Quintet and the UNLV Jazz Trio, and one entry for a wine drawing.
Sponsorships are also available ranging in price from $125 to $1,000. Best-selling author Jack Sheehan has been tapped to serve as the master of ceremonies and auctioneer for the live auction.

ST. JOSEPH PLANS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BAZAAR FOR NOV. 2-3
St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave., has scheduled its 24th annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 2 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3.
Expect an array of crafts, gifts, costume jewelry, a bakery shop, a concession bar and door prizes. Proceeds will benefit the church and its charities, some of which include Catholic Charities, Poverello House, St. Therese Center, War Veterans Food Bank and the Las Vegas Rescue Mission.

COATS FOR KIDS SEEKS DONATIONS THROUGH NOV. 3
Coats for Kids is seeking jackets and winter coats for those in need. Residents will find collection boxes at area Albertsons stores. Donate a children’s gently used coat, sweater or sweatshirt and adult coats. Aramark Uniform will pick up the coats and drop them off at Al Phillips the Cleaner, which has cleaned the coats free for the past 13 years. Coats are then distributed to children in need through The Salvation Army’s Family Services.
This is the 14th year for the program. Anyone who donates a coat can enter a drawing for one of 14 pairs of free tickets to see comedian George Wallace’s show at the Flamingo. Entry forms are available at Albertsons service desks. The drawing is set to take place after the conclusion of the coat drive, which runs through Nov. 3.
WEST SIDE CHICAGO CLUB TO MEET NOV. 3 AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

A special Large Vision Business Network Mixer to help veterans find jobs is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Grand Ballroom of the Suncoast, 9090 Alta Drive.
More than 50 companies are expected to recruit with more than 400 job openings to be offered for full-time, part-time and seasonal work.
The Chefs Corner plans to serve free food, and live entertainment and $2,000 in raffle drawing prizes for all attendees are also planned.

GLOWBALL NIGHT GOLF TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THREE SQUARE NOV. 9
Golf Summerlin plans to host GlowBall Night Golf Nov. 9 at Eagle Crest Golf Course, 2203 Thomas W. Ryan Blvd. Registration is set to begin at 3:30 p.m., with a shotgun start set for 5 p.m.
Event registration is $50 per person and includes a $10 donation to Three Square food bank, light appetizers donated by Cantina Laredo at Tivoli Village, 18 holes of golf and two glow-in-the-dark golf balls. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to Three Square’s Backpacks for Kids program. Additional opportunities to give to the local charity will also be made available through raffles, the purchase of extra golf balls and more.

Expect handmade crafts and baked goods. Proceeds will benefit Eaglequest of Nevada, a nonprofit group that helps foster children and at-risk children. NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR FREE FURNITURE
Walker Furniture is seeking nomination letters through Dec. 1 on behalf of Clark County individuals and families in need for its Home For The Holidays program. This will mark the 20th consecutive year that Walker Furniture plans to provide families in need with a houseful of new furniture.
This year, the company plans to help 28 families in need. HELP of Southern Nevada will assist with identifying nominated families displaying the most genuine need.

YOUTH PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED
The city of Las Vegas’ annual Youth Neighborhood Association Partnership Program grant application process is open through Nov. 22. The program offers grants for up to $1,000 for youths to create and implement neighborhood-based service learning projects of their own design. The program requires youths to match the city’s grant with cash, volunteer time or in-kind services and goods donated to the project. Projects are required to take place in city limits.
Go online for information and application forms. Applications will be reviewed by the program’s board, whose members are appointed by the City Council. Funding recommendations will be presented to the City Council for final approval in February 2014.
