NEVADA GAY RODEO ASSOCIATION Events SCHEDULED Friday through Sunday

The Nevada Gay Rodeo Association BigHorn Rodeo is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Horseman's Park, 5800 E. Flamingo Road. Admission is $5 per day for spectators.

A rodeo school with training in calf roping on foot, goat dressing, steer decorating and chute dogging is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the park. The school's fees are $20 for each event or $65 for all four and lunch.

Additional activities include a kickoff party at 10 p.m. Thursday at Charlie's Las Vegas, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., Suite 100, and a barbecue with reverse karaoke, men performing songs written for women and women performing men's songs, scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Horseman's Park.

MOTHERS DAY RACE Slated FOR Saturday at speedway

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Mother's Day Weekend Special race is scheduled from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children. Tickets at the gate are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and military and $8 for children. LIBRARIES PLAN MOTHER'S DAY EVENTS

Children are invited to celebrate Mother's Day in story and song and make a craft at local libraries. Activities for kids 5 or younger are planned from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. GOVERNMENT AUCTION PLANNED may 19 AT STORAGE LOT

An auction featuring items from several government agencies is scheduled at 9 a.m. May 19 at the Clark County storage lot at 4320 Stephanie St. off East Flamingo Road near Dog Fancier's Park.

Skate Competition Scheduled

The Zumiez Best Foot Forward amateur skateboarding contest series is scheduled to make a stop in Las Vegas at 6 p.m. May 23 at SkateCity Indoor Skatepark, 4915 Steptoe St., No. 600. Sign up and practice is set to begin at 4 p.m. The top amateur skater from each of the 19 contest stops is set to get an all-expense paid trip to the Zumiez Couch Tour's final stop in Bloomington, Minn., to compete in the finals on June 26. The top three finalists will win a trip to Los Angeles to film at famous skate spots, visit top brands' private skateparks and compete in the Hometown Heroes Finals at Summer X Games 18, and receive a one-year sponsorship from Bones Bearings.

Roads to Higher Education in Partnership with University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. May 16 and 23 the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. Financial aid, application deadlines and citizenship questions are among the topics to be discussed by parents of students in grades 9 through 12, representatives of high schools and local colleges, college-age mentors, local nonprofits and cooperative extension staff. The May 16 event will be presented in Spanish.
