Valley residents’ achievements, Dec. 24, 2015 — PHOTOS

Midbar Kodesh Temple and Temple Beth Sholom recently hosted a Mitzvah day, with congregants and friends of the synagogues working together in the community and sponsoring synagogue specific projects in their own buildings and neighborhoods. During the weeks leading up to the Nov. 22 Mitzvah Day, congregants collected gently used books, new toys and gift items for the in-house projects.

Adelaide Chen, data editor for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, has been named a fellow for the Society of American Business Editors and Writers Inc.'s 2016 Goldschmidt Data Immersion Workshop in Washington, D.C., Jan. 11-15, 2016.

Bill Swick, a music educator from Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, was selected as a finalist for the 2016 Music Educator Award.

Dr. Barbara Atkinson was officially named founding dean of the UNLV School of Medicine in November.

In November, Fisher & Phillips LLP announced that its Las Vegas office received a Metropolitan Tier 1 Ranking for Labor Law — Management and Litigation — Labor and Employment by U.S. News — Best Lawyers. Also in November, Dickinson Wright PLLC received 24 national rankings and 7 rankings in Las Vegas in the 2016 Best Law Firms report by U.S. News and Best Lawyers. The firm received 102 first-tier rankings overall. Additionally, Maupin, Naylor, Braster (formerly Naylor & Braster, Attorneys at Law) was selected for a Tier 1 ranking in the 2016 Best Law Firms edition by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers.

Army and Navy Academy announced that John Schulte of Las Vegas made the Honor Roll for the first grading period of the 2015-16 school year.

Duran Heath, Drayson Little and Thomas Yoo, all of Las Vegas, made the Dean's List at the Army and Navy Academy.
