Nonprofit hires:

Vegas PBS recently hired Cassandra Taloma as a media relations specialist. She will assist with public relations, social media and marketing. Taloma rooted herself in the media industry by previously covering breaking news at the Las Vegas Review-Journal and working as a communications intern at the city of Las Vegas.

Awards:

Tony Illia, Nevada Department of Transportation public information officer, won a 2016 Hermes Creative Award for Best Publication Article. The piece entitled, “Don Ahern Does it His Way,” appeared in the Engineering News-Record. Illia won from 6,000 entries submitted from throughout North America.

Caleb Martin of Las Vegas and Anaya Skinner of North Las Vegas were among the approximately 100 students from across America who went on an educational trip March 3-6 to Walt Disney World Resort as part of this year’s Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence magazine.

Eagle recognition:

Trenton Cole Ferguson of North Las Vegas received his badge after building a portable housing structure for four pot-bellied pigs for the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary. He is the son of Alan and Liz Ferguson.

Honor rolls:

Nicole Wozniak of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 president’s list at Georgia State University.

Jude Ulogo of Henderson made the fall 2015 dean’s honor roll for students at East Central University in Ada, Okla.

Kendall Nicole Cheval of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 dean’s list at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.

Students who made the third grading period dean’s list for the 2015-16 school year at Army and Navy Academy include Duran Heath, Drayson Little and Thomas Yoo, all of Las Vegas.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln students who made the dean’s list/Explore Center List of Distinguished Students for the fall semester of the 2015-16 academic year include:

Jessica Adane Chamberlain of Henderson, dean’s list, College of Journalism and Mass Communications, broadcasting.

Adam Gerard Collins of Henderson, dean’s list, College of Business Administration, master of business administration.

Jacob Paul Roan of Henderson, dean’s list, College of Arts and Sciences, actuarial science.

Kaitlin Isabelle Cook of Las Vegas, dean’s list, College of Journalism and Mass Communications, broadcasting.

Graduations:

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Brittany N. Hill graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Hill is the daughter of Melissa A. Hill and Michael L. Hill, both of Las Vegas. She is a 2012 graduate of Shadow Ridge High School.

In December, Louis Carnate and Colin Shaffer, both of Las Vegas, received their master’s degrees from Frostburg State University in Maryland.

U.S. Air Force Airman Austin Malmborg graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Malmborg is the son of Jaime Elmen and Bryan Blake of West Valley City, Utah, and the grandson of Fred and Gloria Elmen of Las Vegas.

Alissa Ellering of Henderson was a fall graduate at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

Melissa Chomintra of Henderson and Tyler Windisch of Las Vegas were fall 2015 graduates from Kent State University in Ohio.
