Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, join a geologist to discuss the rock formations, plants and animals encountered along a moderate, two-mile hike on the Calico Hills East Trail; for ages 10 and older. On Thursday, observe some of Red Rock’s wild burros on an easy hike for ages 15 and older. On Aug. 25, look for wildlife on a moderate, 2½-mile hike to the First Creek Grotto; for ages 12 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. Fly-fishing class: The Nevada Department of Wildlife will host a free fly-fishing class Friday and Saturday. The first session will take place at 6 p.m. Friday at the NDOW office at 4747 Vegas Drive. It will cover fly-fishing terminology, knots, equipment, casting techniques and more.
