Midweek cooldown ahead with rain possible in Las Vegas Valley

The Las Vegas Valley may see some rain and cooler temperatures this week, the National Weather Service said.

Monday’s high was 106 degrees; winds were from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph. But temperatures will start to fall on Tuesday, with lighter winds and a 103-degree high, meteorologist John Adair said.

The 4,500-acre Pilot wildfire in the San Bernardino Mountains that started Sunday afternoon caused haze Monday and could cause issues for people who have asthma or other respiratory issues. The Clark County Department of Air Quality issued a smoke advisory for Monday and Tuesday.

Last month, smoke from the Sand Fire northwest of Los Angeles moved over the valley leading to a three-day air quality advisory. The 41,000-acre wildfire is still burning, but the U.S. Forest Service reported the fire was 98 percent contained on Saturday.

A 20 percent chance of thunderstorms midweek will give east valley residents a break from the heat. Wednesday’s forecast high is 98 degrees, he said.

Thursday’s forecast high is 100 degrees, the weather service said. The rest of the week and the weekend will be hot and dry, with a high forecast at 106 on Friday, and 109 for Saturday and Sunday.
