Some sunny days, then more rain in Las Vegas

Don’t get too comfortable with the sunny skies and warm temperatures early this week. Another storm is expected to bring cooler temperatures and rain this weekend.

Wednesday will be the warmest day this week with a high near 93 degrees, which is 5 to 10 degrees higher than normal, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Chad Shafer. Skies will still be clear, but winds from the south will develop in the afternoon, bringing 15-25 mph winds and gusts up to 35 mph, according to the weather service.

“A strong, slow-moving system meanders into the area for the rest of the week,” Shafer said.

Temperatures will be cooler and there is about a 30 percent chance for showers Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thursday will see a high of 84 and be pretty breezy before the storm hits that night, Shafer said. There is a slight chance for thunderstorms Friday, which could extend into Saturday and Sunday, he added.

The Mount Charleston Lodge, which sits about 7,700 feet in elevation, saw 3 inches of snow with the last storm, but it quickly melted, according to the weather service.

This storm brings about a 40 percent chance for snow showers at the lodge Friday and Saturday starting at 6,500 feet in elevation, Shafer said.
