Men cited for trespassing while searching for UFOs
Review-Journal
Two Utah men have been cited on trespassing charges while searching for UFOs near the military's secret Groom Lake base.
Glen Schriever, 40, of Highland, Utah, and Wayne Christiansen, 47, of Orem, Utah, had crossed over a military boundary sign when they were detained Friday by Sgt. Doug Lamoreaux for misdemeanor trespassing, said Lincoln County Sheriff Dahl Bradfield.
Bradfield said Lamoreaux had been tipped to the men's intrusion by unidentified Nellis Range Complex security personnel working near the secret Area 51 known as the Groom Lake base.
In statements recorded in a sheriff's report, Schriever said he came across a border warning sign, "which he read but decided to cross anyway."
The men had apparently strayed from directions given to them by Joe Travis -- owner of the much-publicized Little A "Le" Inn in Rachel -- on how to reach a mountain peak that overlooks the secret installation and is reputed to be a particularly good vantage point for UFO sightings.
Their court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
The question of UFOs at the Groom Lake base will be the topic of two television shows to air this weekend.
At 10 p.m. Friday on KVVU-TV, Channel 5, "Sightings" -- a newsmagazine on paranormal and supernatural phenomena _ will air a segment on what producers call "the government's pattern of denial of the existence of alien spacecraft at Area 51."
At 6 p.m. Saturday on TNT, radio personality Larry King will air a two-hour, live special from Rachel featuring a panel discussion about UFO sightings near Groom Lake.
