Smithsonian turns down suit worn by Simpson

LOS ANGELES — What O.J. Simpson wore when he was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife and her friend was the suit seen around the world during one of the most watched televised moments in history. But the Smithsonian Institution, America’s repository of historical artifacts, rejected it Tuesday as inappropriate for its collection.

UNLV facing job losses

UNLV will offer yet another round of buyouts, will eliminate departments and jobs, and will further reduce support services for students in an effort to trim an estimated $9u2002million more from its budget, the university’s president told a huge gathering Tuesday. “We will lose some departments,” President Neal Smatresk told more than 500 people at a town hall meeting about state-imposed budget cuts. Many workers in those departments will lose their jobs.

Man arrested in Sunday downtown shooting death linked to drugs

Drugs may have been the motive behind the Sunday slaying of a man near downtown Las Vegas, an arrest report revealed Tuesday.
Jose Lopez, 57, was arrested Monday in the shooting death of Juan Valdez, 55. Lopez was charged with murder with use of a deadly weapon.

Justices may extend gun owner rights nationwide

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court suggested Tuesday it will strike down U.S. cities’ outright bans on handguns, a ruling that could establish a nationwide ownership right fervently sought by gun advocates. But the justices indicated less severe limits could survive, continuing disputes over the “right to keep and bear arms.”

Hulu losing ‘Daily Show,”Colbert Report’

NEW YORK — The popular video Web site Hulu is losing two of its most popular offerings: “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report.” Hulu announced Tuesday that Comedy Central was pulling its shows from the site beginning March 10. Both shows rank among Hulu’s most watched programs.

3 guilty of starving toddler to death

BALTIMORE — The leader of a household that authorities described as a religious cult was convicted Tuesday along with two other people of starving a 1-year-old boy to death because he did not say “Amen” during a mealtime prayer.
