Desert Pines senior running back Jamel Brown is set to sign a national letter of intent to play for the University of Charlotte — four weeks after receiving the scholarship offer from the Conference USA program.

Athletes around area make college choices official

Bishop Gorman’s Abbey Archambault, a 6-foot senior outside hitter/middle blocker, signed a letter of intent with Idaho State during a ceremony in Gorman’s gymnasium attended by more than 100 friends and family. Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period.

Tony Fields, a 6-foot-2-inch, 205-pound linebacker, has been one of the area’s most heavily recruited players this spring. He has 19 scholarship offers — Northwestern was the most recent on April 30 — and his family has racked up plenty of hotel points over the past month and a half making unofficial visits on the weekends.
