The Sharks on Sunday night avoided elimination for the second straight game in dramatic fashion, beating the Golden Knights 2-1 in double overtime of Game 6 in this Western Conference quarterfinal before what ultimately became a despondent 18,458 fans at T-Mobile Arena.
Tomas Hertl promised fans in San Jose the team would be back for a Game 7, then went out and scored the first short-handed goal in a multiple overtime game in NHL playoff history to beat the Golden Knights 2-1 on Sunday.
The Knights had allowed only seven short-handed goals in their two-year history prior to Sunday and none in the postseason.
