TELLURIDE, Colo. — A survivor of the deadly 1996 Mount Everest expedition has died at her home in Telluride, Colorado.

Charlotte Fox was found dead in her home May 24 at age 61. Friends who were staying with Fox during Mountainfilm weekend reportedly found her at the bottom of stairs in the house.

San Miguel County Coroner Emil Sante said Tuesday he is waiting for results of a toxicology report and hasn’t yet released the cause and manner of death, but foul play is not suspected.

Fox was a fixture in the Aspen climbing and skiing scene from the early 1980s until she moved to Telluride in 2007.

She worked as a ski patroller at Snowmass from 1982 through the 2006-07 season. She also worked on the Telluride ski patrol but was retired.

The fatal expedition was chronicled in the 1990s best-seller, “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer. The story was turned into a major motion picture, “Everest,” in 2015. Actress Amy Shindler played Fox in the film.
