3 cars damaged in Monday fires
Three cars were damaged early Monday in a series of fires being investigated as possible acts of vandalism, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.
Crews responded about 4:30 a.m. Monday to a vehicle fire in the driveway of 8245 Cimarron Ridge Drive, near the intersection of Vegas and Durango drives, department spokesman Tim Szymanski said. The fire in the vehicle, a Mercedes, had began to spread to the garage and damaged the exterior of the house.
As responders arrived, a second vehicle was seen burning on the same street at 8264 Cimarron Ridge Drive. Firefighters were able to extinguish both vehicle fires in under 15 minutes, Szymanski said.
The fire in the second vehicle, a Lexus, spread to an adjacent vehicle, another Mercedes, Szymanski said.
Both houses had surveillance systems installed and recorded footage of a man approaching vehicles and attempting to open doors, Szymanski said. After the man opened the doors of the vehicles and “rummaged” through them before leaving, the vehicles could be seen going up in flames, he said.
Szymanski said the footage will not be released by the Fire Department.
