Coroner IDs Las Vegas man killed in crash on beltway

A Las Vegas man who was killed in a head-on collision this week on the 215 Beltway near Aliante Parkway was identified Wednesday by the Clark County coroner's office as Joel Trammel.

Trammel, 33, was driving west on the beltway in a Chevy Impala just after 1:30 a.m. Monday when the vehicle crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The Impala then collided head-on with a Jeep Liberty that was headed eastbound on the beltway. A third vehicle collided with the Impala, which then caught fire. Trammel died there, according to the highway patrol.

A passenger in the Jeep was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, identified by NHP on Wednesday as Gerard Coles, was arrested and faces a DUI charge.

The driver of another car stopped to help at the crash and their car was rear-ended. No one was hurt.
