Former director of Latin American group sentenced in CCSD theft
A Las Vegas judge sentenced a former director of Nevada‘s League of United Latin American Citizens to five years of probation for his part in a scheme to steal thousands of dollars from the Clark County School District.
Andres Mendoza, 46, previously pleaded guilty to one count of theft for his role in a nearly decade-long scheme to funnel money out of the district‘s Adult English Language Acquisition Services program. The Las Vegas man agreed to probation on the condition that he pay about $2,100 in restitution to the district.
Last month, District Judge Susan Johnson sentenced the head of the AELAS program, 67-year-old Priscilla Rocha, to between four and 10 years in prison for stealing $280,000 from the district.
Three other defendants also received sentences of probation, provided they make restitution payments.
